Mateusz Morawiecki to launch new party by Oct. 15 as split with PiS deepens

Former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that a new political party will be formally registered no later than 15 October 2026, following a deepening split with Law and Justice (PiS). The announcement follows the creation of the Rozwój Plus association in April, which PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński condemned and ordered members to renounce any involvement in external political organisations. About 40 PiS lawmakers who joined Rozwój Plus faced disciplinary proceedings and were effectively removed from the party.

Morawiecki scheduled a Rozwój Plus convention for 15 October, coinciding with the third anniversary of the 2023 parliamentary elections. The event, dubbed “Rozwój + Wy”, was held in Warsaw’s Praga district and described as a “festival of ideas”, combining debates with a picnic. Organisers estimated the cost of the convention between 90 000 and 120 000 zł.

Kaczyński publicly attacked Morawiecki, saying the former premier is “in a strange state” and accusing him of seeking allies outside PiS. Morawiecki responded in interviews, claiming he could earn $15 million a year abroad and alleging that a faction within PiS (“maślarzy”) is plotting to push Kaczyński out of power. The dispute has intensified internal party tensions ahead of upcoming elections.
