Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus movement sparks political shifts in Poland

The political landscape in Poland is experiencing significant shifts following the formation of the Rozwój Plus association by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. This move marks a deepening rift within the Law and Justice (PiS) party as Morawiecki attempts to build a new political identity and support base following his departure from the party leadership.

In Kalisz, Mayor Krystian Kinastowski officially joined the Rozwój Plus association on August 13. This decision has drawn sharp criticism from local Civic Coalition (KO) councilors, who argue that the move signals a clear alignment with the right wing despite Kinastowski’s previous image as a non-partisan local official.

The internal conflict within the Polish right is further highlighted by tensions between Morawiecki and former PiS allies. Figures such as Jacek Sasin have criticized Morawiecki’s attempts to distance himself from the decisions made during his tenure as Prime Minister, accusing him of trying to claim credit for successes while avoiding responsibility for past failures.
