Mato Grosso beef exports earn up to 40% more in Europe than in China

Data from the Instituto Mato‑grosso de Economia Agropecuária (Imea) show that European buyers pay between US$6,390 and US$6,667 per tonne of Mato Grosso beef, roughly 40% more than the US$4,745 paid by China. The European Union leads the Export Attractiveness Index with a score of 108.49, while China, despite accounting for 55.2% of the state’s export volume, ranks at 74.37.

Domestically, the arroba price in Mato Grosso fell 1.5% in July to R$325, diverging from gains of 3‑5% in other major cattle‑producing states. Analysts attribute the local decline to the state’s heavy reliance on export‑oriented slaughterhouse demand and regional supply‑logistics factors. An expected increase in animal supply from confinement operations could stabilize prices in August.
