Mato Grosso corn harvest approaches 80% completion, set for record 2025/26 yield

The 2025/26 corn harvest in Brazil’s Mato Grosso state is about 80% finished, according to the Instituto Mato‑Grosso de Economia Agropecuária (Imea). Officials expect harvesting to be completed by the first half of August. Productivity has risen to a new state record of 128.64 sacks per hectare, and total output is projected at 57.06 million tonnes, a 2.92% increase over the previous season. The gross value of production (VBP) is now estimated at R$ 42.27 billion, representing roughly 25.7% of the state’s total agricultural value.

In the municipality of Lucas do Rio Verde, 90‑95% of the corn area has been harvested. Local officials note good yields and a strengthening market driven by new ethanol plants, which have boosted internal demand and liquidity. Despite these positives, producers face tighter profit margins due to higher fertilizer costs linked to global supply disruptions and lingering debt from pandemic‑era investments.
