Mato Grosso corn production and export growth

Entities: Mato Grosso · Corn (maize) · Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) · Mato Grosso (Brazil) State · Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Rural de Mato Grosso (Senar‑MT)

Overview

Brazil’s Mato Grosso state shipped 24.35 million tonnes of corn in the 2024/25 harvest, accounting for 57.5 % of national exports, with Egypt, Iran and Vietnam taking almost half the volume. Overall Brazilian corn exports rose nearly 12 % year‑on‑year.

By July 2026 the 2025/26 corn harvest was about 80 % complete and on track for a record yield of 128.64 sacks per hectare, projecting 57.06 million tonnes – a modest 2.9 % gain over the previous season. Harvesting was expected to finish in the first half of August, and in Lucas do Rio Verde 90‑95 % of the area had already been cut.

A later update on 25 July 2026 confirmed that 90.66 % of the second‑season (safrinha) corn area in Mato Grosso had been harvested, keeping the state on target for the 57.06 million‑tonne record output, which represents more than half of Brazil’s total second‑season forecast of 109.43 million tonnes. Officials expect most work to finish by late July or early August, with some later‑planted parcels extending into September. Across Brazil, the second‑season harvest passed the halfway point, though heavy rains in Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul delayed machine entry and raised drying costs, while droughts elsewhere constrained yields.

The Ministry of Agriculture approved a Climate Risk Zoning for sorghum forage in Mato Grosso do Sul for the 2026/27 season, defining risk categories to guide planting decisions. Corn is forecast to contribute roughly 25 % of Mato Grosso’s agricultural gross value in 2026, valued at about R$ 42.27 billion, while commodity prices continue to support the record‑output outlook.
