Mato Grosso Deploys Ten Temporary Fire Brigades Ahead of 2026 Burn Ban

The Military Fire Corps of Mato Grosso (CBMMT) has begun pre‑season deployment of ten temporary forest fire‑combat units to the state’s most vulnerable interior regions. The measure supports a newly announced fire‑prohibition period running from 1 July to 30 November 2026 across the Amazon, Cerrado and Pantanal biomes. The units will map fire‑risk areas, train local volunteer brigades, and integrate with the Integrated Registry of Fire‑fighting Resources (Sicraif) to coordinate equipment such as tractors, water tanks and fire‑trucks. Violations of the burn ban will be treated as environmental crimes, subject to heavy fines and possible criminal prosecution. The initiative aims to sharply reduce forest fire hotspots, protect wildlife, and safeguard rural communities and conservation units during the state’s most severe dry season.
