Mato Grosso do Sul agribusiness sees rising land prices and meat exports
The agribusiness sector in Mato Grosso do Sul is undergoing significant economic shifts. In Três Lagoas, land prices for agricultural use have reached approximately R$ 55.1 thousand per hectare, representing a 122% premium over pasture land, which averages R$ 24.8 thousand per hectare. This valuation is driven by the expansion of the cellulose industry and anticipated infrastructure improvements from the Cellulose Route and the Bioceanic Route.
Simultaneously, the state's animal protein industry has seen massive growth. Between 2006 and 2025, export revenues for beef, pork, and poultry rose from US$ 196.1 million to US$ 2.47 billion. In 2025, beef production reached a historic high of 1.06 million tons, accounting for roughly 10% of Brazil's national production. This expansion has been supported by increased productivity in existing facilities and has nearly doubled the formal workforce in the meatpacking sector to over 40,000 employees.
