Sewerage coverage reaches 99% in six Mato Grosso do Sul municipalities

Six municipalities in the Três Lagoas region of Mato Grosso do Sul have achieved 99% sewage coverage as of September, according to data from the sanitation company Sanesul. The cities reaching this milestone include Bataguassu, Brasilândia, Ribas do Rio Pardo, Santa Rita do Pardo, Selvíria, and Três Lagoas.

This achievement exceeds the 90% service target for collection and treatment established by the Legal Framework for Basic Sanitation, which aims for universalization across Brazil by 2033. The high coverage rates in Três Lagoas and Ribas do Rio Pardo are notable as they sit within the ‘Vale da Celulose’, a region experiencing significant industrial expansion driven by large-scale pulp and paper projects from companies such as Suzano, Eldorado Brasil, Arauco, and Bracell.

The expansion of sanitary infrastructure in these areas is responding to increased urban demand caused by regional economic growth and industrial investment.
