Mato Grosso leads Brazil's beef production and exports in 2026
Beef production in Mato Grosso saw significant growth in the first half of 2026, reaching 987,230 tonnes, an 8.88% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth outpaced the Brazilian national average of 3.98%, allowing the state to account for 18.36% of the country's total beef production. The increase was driven largely by higher efficiency and increased average carcass weight, which rose 3.69% to 272.98 kg per animal.
Between January and August 2026, Mato Grosso led Brazil's beef exports, shipping 564,100 tonnes. This volume represents 25.6% of Brazil's total international beef sales for that period, generating US$ 3.2 billion in revenue. In comparison, Brazil exported a total of 2.2 million tonnes of beef during those eight months, totaling US$ 12.7 billion in revenue.
While domestic production remains strong, recent export data for September shows a slowdown. During the first 13 business days of September, Brazilian beef exports totaled 130,310 tonnes, a 29.90% decrease in daily shipment averages compared to the same period in 2025.
