Mato Grosso Municipal Association elections cleared to resume by court order

The 11th Civil Court of Cuiabá has revoked an injunction that had suspended the electoral assembly for the Mato Grosso Municipal Association (AMM) for the 2027-2029 term. The court recognized the regularity of the actions taken by the AMM prior to the suspension and authorized the resumption of the electoral process.

The election was originally interrupted on September 16 after a legal challenge by the mayor of Nova Xavantina, João Machado Neto, regarding changes to the association's statutes and election calendar. At the time of the suspension, 99 of the 142 associated municipalities had already voted, while six others were waiting to cast their ballots.

The court ruled that the 99 votes already cast must remain inviolable. The upcoming session will be dedicated exclusively to collecting votes from the remaining eligible mayors. Once this stage is complete, the Electoral Commission will conduct a joint count and proclaim the results. The commission will notify all associated municipalities at least 48 hours in advance of the new date and time.
