Overview

The Associação Mato-grossense dos Municípios (AMM) approved a restructuring of its internal regulations via Resolution No. 010/2026. This new statute established three-year mandates for the Executive Board and Fiscal Council, limiting reelections to a single consecutive term. To manage the transition, the current leadership's term was extended to January 2027, with elections for new directors scheduled for December 2026.

The updated rules introduced stricter candidate requirements, including mandatory asset declarations and criminal and civil certificates, while prohibiting proxy voting.

Following these reforms, the electoral assembly for the 2027-2029 term was temporarily suspended on September 16 due to a legal challenge by the mayor of Nova Xavantina regarding the new statutes and election calendar. However, the 11th Civil Court of Cuiabá subsequently revoked the injunction, ruling that the actions taken by the AMM were regular. The court declared the 99 votes already cast as “inviolable” and authorized the resumption of the process to collect the remaining votes.
