Mato Grosso police launch operation against public tender fraud

The Civil Police of Mato Grosso launched ‘Operation Bid Rigging’ to investigate a suspected scheme involving the manipulation of public tenders and irregularities in government contracts across the Araguaia region.

Investigators suspect a group used companies registered under third-party names to conceal the true owners and direct contracts in at least ten municipalities. The suspected crimes include bid rigging, irregular direct contracting, splitting expenses to bypass legal requirements, charging above-market prices, document forgery, and asset concealment. The contracts primarily involved public events, musical performances, and the rental of structures, sound equipment, lighting, and generators.

Authorities executed seven search and seizure warrants across Ribeirão Cascalheira, Luciara, and Novo Santo Antônio to collect evidence such as cell phones, computers, and legal documents. The investigation also included precautionary measures against six business registrations linked to the investigated group.
