Brazil advances oncology care and healthcare policies
Brazil is implementing several healthcare initiatives focused on oncology and medical training. The Senate's Social Affairs Commission (CAS) is reviewing a project to improve the National Cancer Patient Navigation Program. This proposal aims to optimize patient care, accelerate diagnosis, and provide individualized support from initial suspicion through the end of treatment.
In support of oncology services, the Ministry of Health has opened applications for the National Program for Support to Oncological Care (Pronon) and the National Program for Support to the Health of Persons with Disabilities (Pronas/PCD). These programs allow non-profit organizations to secure private sector funding for SUS-related projects through tax incentives.
Breast cancer awareness remains a priority during the 'Pink October' campaign. Experts highlight the importance of early screening, noting that the National Cancer Institute estimates approximately 78,000 new cases annually in Brazil. Regional efforts include surgical backlog reduction in Ceará and breast reconstruction initiatives in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Norte.
Additionally, several medical residency programs for 2027 have opened applications across various Brazilian regions, including Várzea Grande and Juiz de Fora.
