Mato Grosso public hearing reviews Brazil's organized crime law
On 12 June 2026 the Mato Grosso Court of Justice hosted a public hearing titled “The Law to Combat Organized Crime in Brazil and its impacts on the criminal‑justice system: challenges and opportunities.” Held in the Tribunal de Justiça auditorium in Cuiabá and streamed online, the hybrid event aimed to foster debate among judges, prosecutors, police, lawyers and academic experts about the new legislation’s effects on investigations, corporate governance and procedural safeguards.
Three thematic panels were scheduled. The first examined the expansion of the “structured social domain” concept. The second addressed anti‑money‑laundering measures and the duties of legal entities under corporate‑governance rules. The third discussed expanded investigative powers and the flexibility of procedural guarantees. Participants included state prosecutors, the OAB‑MT, senior police officials and magistrates, who exchanged views on both opportunities and challenges posed by the law.
