Mato Grosso sees surge in finance and agribusiness investments
Cresol, a Brazilian credit cooperative with more than one million members, opened a new agency in Cuiabá on June 26 to serve cooperatives, agribusiness producers, local commerce and individual customers. The move is part of a broader expansion as the cooperative highlights the state’s strong economic growth, higher-than‑national GDP, and its role as a conduit for BNDES funding.
Girassol Agrícola, a grain producer based in Rondonópolis, announced plans to add 4,000 hectares of eucalyptus to its existing 10,000 hectares. The expansion aims to meet rising biomass demand from corn‑ethanol plants, with eucalyptus now offering margins roughly twice those of soy or corn. The company expects to invest up to R$ 80 million, targeting harvests by 2031, and views the project as a long‑term response to both market demand and upcoming regulations restricting native forest use for energy.
Both initiatives reflect accelerating diversification and investment in Mato Grosso’s financial and agricultural sectors.
