Mato Grosso socio-environmental and bioeconomy initiatives advance

In Mato Grosso, Brazil, several initiatives are advancing socio-environmental and economic development through partnerships between government programs, private companies, and Sebrae.

Suzano, in collaboration with Sebrae and the Ofaié Indigenous Community in Brasilândia, has reported progress in its community relationship project. Key achievements include the establishment of eight family vegetable gardens producing various crops for local consumption and commercial sale. The project also includes infrastructure improvements for livestock, such as the renovation of 10.5 kilometers of fencing and the recovery of 35 hectares of pasture, alongside the development of apiculture and poultry farming.

Separately, the REM MT Program has formalized an 18-month partnership with Sebrae to support over 40 bioeconomy-focused organizations in the state. This initiative, funded by Germany and the United Kingdom via KfW as recognition for Mato Grosso’s reduction in deforestation, aims to professionalize the management of extractive and agricultural cooperatives. The program will provide training in corporate governance, finance, and business planning to ensure the financial sustainability of green businesses in the Amazon, Cerrado, and Pantanal biomes.
