USDA report triggers shifts in US soybean and corn market projections

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released its September World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, triggering significant movements in global commodity markets. Soybean futures in Chicago fell 2.68% to US$ 12.96 per bushel after the USDA unexpectedly raised US soybean production and yield estimates to 123.4 million metric tons, contrary to market expectations of a reduction.

Regarding corn, the USDA estimated US production at 401.33 million metric tons and ending stocks at 39.80 million metric tons. While corn production estimates saw a monthly decline, the report's impact on corn prices was mitigated by domestic demand and regional market dynamics.

On a broader economic scale, the USDA projects US agricultural net income to reach US$ 158.4 billion in 2026, representing a 2.6% decrease from the previous year. This projection is influenced by a 4.5% increase in total production expenses, which are expected to reach US$ 492.8 billion, driven largely by higher costs in livestock and poultry segments.
