Mato Grosso do Sul hosts multi‑city youth school sports games

The Jogos Escolares da Juventude de Mato Grosso do Sul opened on 12 June in Campo Grande, featuring 3,268 athletes, coaches and officials from 57 municipalities. The competition runs in three blocks until 28 June, covering athletics, badminton, judo, karate, table tennis, chess, artistic gymnastics, swimming, wrestling, volleyball, futsal, basketball, handball and beach volleyball across age groups 12‑14 and 15‑17. Events are staged at venues such as Parque Olímpico Ayrton Senna, Rádio Clube Campo, Cefat and the Poliesportivo Dom Bosco, with additional activities like karaoke, a live broadcast of Brazil’s World Cup match and a sticker‑album exchange.

Simultaneously, the regional east stage of the Jogos Escolares e Estudantis Mato‑grossenses began in Canarana, gathering more than 1,100 participants from 97 teams representing 13 municipalities. Over a week, students aged 12‑17 compete in basketball, handball, futsal and volleyball, with separate brackets for school‑age (12‑14) and student‑age (15‑17) categories. The event follows a two‑week pause caused by school‑housing arrangements and is part of the eighth regional phase of the 2026 edition, leading to state‑wide finals in July.
