Mattel launches Marilyn Monroe Barbie to honor 100th anniversary

Mattel has announced the launch of a new Barbie Signature Collector doll to honor the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe. The doll is a replica of the iconic pink dress worn by Monroe in the film ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’, specifically recreating the ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’ sequence.

To ensure authenticity, Mattel collaborated with The Estate of Marilyn Monroe LLC on the design. The figure features a bright pink dress with a large bow, long opera gloves, and sparkling jewelry. This release marks the seventh Barbie inspired by Monroe, following previous editions that featured looks from ‘The Seven Year Itch’ and ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’.

The release is timed around significant dates in the actress's life, occurring near her birthday and the anniversary of her passing. The collection aims to appeal to both adult collectors and children.
