Mattel releases Marilyn Monroe Barbie to mark centennial
Mattel has released a special edition Barbie from its Barbie Signature line to commemorate the centennial of Marilyn Monroe's birth. The doll is inspired by Monroe's iconic musical performance in the 1953 film ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’, specifically the scene ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’.
The design features a pink dress with a large bow, long gloves, pink shoes, and diamond-inspired jewelry to emulate the actress's cinematic glamour. Developed in collaboration with The Estate of Marilyn Monroe LLC, the collector's item includes a certificate of authenticity and a display stand.
This release follows previous Mattel tributes to Monroe between 1997 and 2009 and joins a collection of Barbie figures honoring entertainment icons such as Whitney Houston, David Bowie, and Elvis Presley.
