Matteo Malucelli wins opening stage of Tour de Langkawi 2026

Matteo Malucelli of the XDS Astana Team won the first stage of the 2026 Tour de Langkawi, a 193-kilometer race from Shah Alam to Kampar. Malucelli secured the orange jersey as the overall leader, holding a three-second advantage over Javier Ibanez Beltran de Salazar of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA.

Riley Pickrell of Modern Adventure Pro Cycling finished second, while Fernando Gaviria of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA took third place. In other classifications, Petr Rikunov leads the King of the Mountains competition, and Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli holds the white jersey as the top-performing Asian rider.

Malucelli’s victory follows a difficult period where he suffered a crash during training shortly before the race began. Despite concerns regarding a potential hand injury, medical examinations ruled out a fracture, allowing him to compete.
