Ukraine under Russian strikes as Salvini links aid to fuel costs

Russian military strikes have targeted several Ukrainian cities, resulting in significant casualties and damage. A drone attack on a shopping center in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region, killed 5 people and injured 67. In Kyiv, a bombardment damaged a nine-story residential building and caused a fire, injuring two people. President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for increased international support, specifically for air defense to protect civilians from ongoing strikes.

In Italy, Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini has commented on the economic implications of the conflict. He noted that Italian aid to Ukraine, which includes support used to strike Russian refineries, contributes to rising global fuel costs. To mitigate domestic fuel price increases, the Italian government is considering extending diesel excise tax discounts. The Lega party has formally requested that these fuel tax relief measures be expanded to include self-employed workers, merchants, and taxi drivers.
