In 2019, Kelly Stafford was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor after experiencing dizziness. The surgery to remove the tumor, which affected nerves near her inner ear, lasted nearly 12 hours due to an abnormal vein. During her recovery, Matthew Stafford prioritized her care, even considering leaving his NFL career and missing voluntary offseason workouts with the Detroit Lions to support her.

In a lighter moment, the couple participated in a social media segment for the Los Angeles Rams titled ‘QB 1 on 1’. The segment featured the couple competing in a fourth-grade level trivia quiz. During the competition, they attempted to identify a type of figurative language in a sentence, with Matthew correctly identifying it as ‘personification’ while Kelly suggested ‘hyperbole’.
