Matthew Breetzke breaks ODI world record for runs in 14 innings

South African batter Matthew Breetzke has set a new world record for the most runs scored in the first 14 innings of an One Day International (ODI) career. By scoring 112 runs off 106 balls against Australia at Kingsmead in Durban, Breetzke extended his career total to 822 runs in 15 innings.

This performance surpasses the previous record held by Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq, who amassed 759 runs in his first 14 innings. Breetzke’s century was part of a 107-run partnership with Marco Jansen during the first ODI of the series.

Breetzke has established himself as a prominent figure in South African cricket since his debut in February 2025, where he set a 47-year-old record by scoring 150 runs in his first ODI against New Zealand. His career now includes two centuries and six half-centuries in the 50-over format.
