South Africa secured a 67-run victory over Australia in the first ODI of their three-match series at Kingsmead in Durban. After Australia won the toss and elected to field, South Africa posted a total of 297 for eight. The innings was anchored by Matthew Breetzke, who scored 112 runs, and supported by a rapid 75 from Marco Jansen. Their sixth-wicket partnership of 107 runs proved decisive in reaching a competitive target.

Breetzke’s performance during the match established a new world record for the most runs scored in the first 14 innings of an ODI career, reaching a total of 822 runs and surpassing the previous record of 759 held by Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq.

In response, Australia’s chase faltered despite an aggressive start led by Mitchell Marsh, who scored 60 runs off 36 balls. The Australian batting lineup collapsed under the pressure of South Africa’s spin attack. Keshav Maharaj was the standout performer, claiming 4/20, while Bjorn Fortuin contributed 2/34. Australia was eventually bowled out for 230 in 41.2 overs.

Individual milestones included Marco Jansen reaching his 50th ODI wicket and a notable diving catch by Jansen to dismiss Matt Renshaw. The win gives South Africa a 1-0 lead in the series as both teams prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
