Maule Regional Government begins restoration of historic Intendencia building

Restoration works have officially begun on the historic Intendencia del Maule building in Talca, Chile. The project aims to fully recover the neoclassical structure, which was built between 1910 and 1916 and declared a National Monument in 2001.

Financed by the Maule Regional Government through the FNDR, the initiative involves an investment of 14,657 million pesos. The project is expected to last 768 consecutive days. Once completed, the building will serve as a cultural, institutional, and civic space, featuring exhibition areas, library services, and other heritage-related functions.

Governor Pedro Pablo Álvarez-Salamanca noted that the building has remained closed for 15 years following earthquake damage. The goal is to reopen the site to the community and the Maule Region within approximately two years.
