Mauritania expands digital push with Oman AI pact and blockchain

Mauritania signed a series of agreements with the Sultanate of Oman to cooperate on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and skills development. The partnership includes exchange of expertise, sharing of best practices and support for implementing digital projects in public administration and services, reinforcing Mauritania's broader strategy to modernise the state and diversify its economy.

At the same time, Mauritania is advancing a national blockchain strategy. A two‑day workshop held on July 27‑28, organized by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Administrative Modernisation in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, gathered researchers and experts to discuss blockchain applications for public services such as land registration, trade, procurement and natural‑resource management. Minister Ahmed Salem Ould Bede emphasised that blockchain can improve data governance, reduce costs and foster a new generation of digital professionals and startups.

These initiatives illustrate Mauritania’s effort to build a comprehensive digital ecosystem that combines infrastructure, emerging technologies and training to boost governmental efficiency and economic growth.
