Mauritania Hosts G5 Sahel Defense College Graduation of 53 Officers

On Wednesday evening in Nouakchott, Mauritania, the Defence and Interior Ministers presided over the graduation ceremony of the eighth promotion of the G5 Sahel Defence College. The ceremony marked the completion of a year of academic study and intensive military training for 53 graduates.

The cohort includes 34 Mauritanian officers and 19 officers from partner countries: nine from Saudi Arabia, five from Chad, two from Algeria, and one each from Senegal, Guinea and Morocco. In his remarks, Defence Minister Hanena Ould Sidi emphasized that modern military power depends as much on the quality of human resources as on equipment, and highlighted the college’s role in preparing senior officers for strategic and security challenges under the guidance of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

The ministers praised the college’s faculty, administration, and partners for contributing to the successful academic year and urged the newly graduated officers to continue their professional development, uphold discipline and serve the nation’s security interests.
