Mauritius authorities seize cannabis-infused gummies in Mahébourg

Authorities in Mauritius have identified a new trend in illicit drug consumption involving cannabis-infused gummies, locally referred to as ‘gom gandia’. These gelatinous candies are designed to look like harmless confectionery, making them easy to transport and discreet.

During a targeted operation in Mahébourg, the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of Rose-Belle searched the home of a 29-year-old man. Police seized several red gummy candies suspected of containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, along with 5.22 grams of cannabis. The suspect was arrested and remains in custody. The seized gummies have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed analysis to confirm their exact chemical composition.
