Haiti Prime Minister seeks UN support for security and elections

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is traveling to New York to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. His mission focuses on mobilizing international support to address critical national priorities, specifically the restoration of security, institutional consolidation, and the organization of credible general elections, which are tentatively planned for December.

During his diplomatic mission, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with several high-level leaders and international officials, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, European Council President António Costa, Kenyan President William Ruto, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Discussions are expected to cover security, migration, international cooperation, governance, and economic development.

Fils-Aimé will also participate in specialized events, such as a high-level colloquium on ‘Security – Elections – Religion for peace and stability’ and a summit titled ‘From crisis to recovery: rethinking international aid for Haiti,’ organized with Chatham House and Global Canada. The mission aims to foster a partnership based on respect for Haitian sovereignty and shared responsibility to combat the ongoing violence that has impacted the country.
