Mauriziana Basilica in Turin reopens after seven years

The Basilica Magistrale dei Santi Maurizio e Lazzaro in Turin is reopening to the public on Sunday, October 25, following a seven-year closure. The closure, which began in 2019, was necessary to facilitate extensive restoration and safety works on the dome and the drum of the hall.

A central focus of the project was the restoration of the monumental fresco ‘Trionfo della Croce’ by Paolo Emilio Morgari, created between 1858 and 1859. Located approximately forty meters above the ground, the restoration has improved the chromatic and compositional legibility of the work, which features more than three hundred figures.

The basilica, located at the intersection of via Milano and via della Basilica, holds significant architectural and decorative value linked to the history of the Maurizian Order and the House of Savoy.
