Max Verstappen criticizes Formula 1 technical direction

Max Verstappen has expressed significant dissatisfaction with the current state of Formula 1, specifically criticizing the new engine regulations that incorporate substantial electric power. The driver described the current era as “unnatural,” suggesting that the shift toward managing battery charge forces drivers to hold back in corners rather than pushing the limits of braking and acceleration.

Verstappen has previously compared the current technical direction to “Formula E on steroids,” arguing that the fundamental DNA of motorsport—where the driver's ability to take risks is rewarded—is being undermined. He noted that the current setup requires drivers to constantly manage energy deployment, which he believes devalues pure driving skill.

Regarding his competitive outlook, Verstappen acknowledged that while he always strives for the maximum performance, the current technical limitations of his car make winning difficult. He emphasized that regardless of track characteristics, such as the upcoming circuit in Madrid, a fast car remains the primary requirement for success in Formula 1.
