Max Verstappen declines to comment on Red Bull future as contract clause looms
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen, who is under contract with Red Bull Racing until 2028, faced questions about his long‑term future at the Belgian Grand Prix press conference. He repeatedly said there is "nothing to say" and declined to confirm any plans, noting that any update would come from him if there were news.
Verstappen’s contract contains a performance‑related clause that could allow him to leave for 2027 if he is not among the top two drivers by the summer break. With the Dutchman currently seventh in the standings, the clause is technically triggered, but he gave no indication of invoking it. Speculation has linked him with McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari, though no concrete talks have been confirmed.
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri put further rumors to rest, confirming he will remain with the team for the 2027 season, saying he is "very comfortable" in his position. Verstappen’s manager also reiterated that there are no plans for a move. Both drivers emphasized focusing on their current teams rather than future speculation.
