Max Verstappen says no rush to extend Red Bull contract beyond 2028

Four‑time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen told reporters in Monaco that he is not in a hurry to sign a new deal with Red Bull. His current contract runs until the end of the 2028 season, leaving him with two years remaining.

Verstappen criticised the sport’s upcoming 50 %‑50 % power‑unit rule and said he would consider leaving Formula 1 if the regulations do not shift toward at least a 60 %‑40 % split in favour of the internal‑combustion engine. After his podium in Montreal he said, “I have not signed a new contract for a while, but that is not my biggest concern right now,” and added, “I must first decide whether I want to continue after 2028.”

His comments came as Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc announced a contract extension, prompting speculation about Red Bull’s desire to secure Verstappen. Verstappen responded humorously, “Otherwise I would have signed a contract until 2040 a long time ago.”
