Spielberg Grand Prix records 320,000 fans as security measures prove successful

The Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg attracted a record 320,000 spectators, with British driver George Russell winning and Mercedes’ Max Verstappen finishing second behind Kimi Antonelli.

Authorities praised the event’s security and traffic management, noting orderly fan departures, low crime rates, and the first use of a dedicated bicycle police unit. Twenty illegal private‑drone flights were detected and penalised, and the fire brigade reported 93 incidents handled without major injuries.

Red Bull Racing apologized after Verstappen suffered a high‑speed crash in qualifying, attributing it to a rear‑wing aerodynamic defect. The team took responsibility and confirmed the driver escaped uninjured. Updates to the RB22 car were highlighted by team officials as the strongest performance of the season, allowing Verstappen to contend for a win despite the setback.
