Max Verstappen welcomes F1 power‑unit rule tweaks towards 60/40 split

At the Barcelona Grand Prix, four‑time world champion Max Verstappen said the recent adjustments to the Formula 1 technical regulations are “moving in the right direction”. He noted that he had hoped for changes earlier, but acknowledged the political complexities behind them.

The FIA and F1 management have agreed to raise the internal‑combustion engine limit from 400 kW this season to 420 kW in 2027 and 450 kW in 2028, while cutting the hybrid‑motor output from 350 kW to 300 kW after 2026. Energy‑recovery capacity will rise to 400 kW by 2028, shifting the power split from roughly 53/47 to a 60 % ICE and 40 % electric balance. Verstappen, who previously likened the season's cars to “Mario Kart”, welcomed the move but said it does not go far enough.
