Max Verstappen's contract uncertainty fuels 2027 F1 driver market reshuffle

Max Verstappen has not yet confirmed a contract extension with Red Bull beyond the 2026 season, leaving all Formula 1 teams unsure about their driver line‑ups for 2027. Teams aim to finalise their rosters before the summer break, and the unresolved status of Verstappen's deal is prompting speculation about moves involving drivers such as George Russell, Pietro Fittipaldi and others.

At the same time, the FIA’s newly introduced ADUO (Additional Development Upgrade Opportunity) system has assessed power‑unit performance after the Canadian Grand Prix. Red Bull’s engine was rated the benchmark, with Mercedes trailing by 2‑4 % and Ferrari, Honda and Audi falling more than 4 % behind. The evaluation grants extra development budgets and testing time to manufacturers that lag, a measure seen as crucial for Honda, which faces a potential crisis and may need the additional resources to remain competitive.

Both developments illustrate a period of uncertainty and possible reshuffling in the sport, affecting driver contracts and the technical balance among manufacturers.
