Max Verstappen’s future in doubt after Austrian GP

George Russell claimed his second victory of the season at the Austrian Grand Prix, cutting Max Verstappen’s championship lead. Verstappen, starting fifth, finished outside the podium as Red Bull struggled to match Mercedes pace.

Verstappen’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, warned that the Dutch driver “was not born to race in the midfield” and that his continued stay at Red Bull depends on the car’s ability to challenge for wins. While the contract runs to 2028, the team must deliver a front‑running package, or Verstappen could explore offers – with McLaren mentioned as a potential destination.

The Austrian race highlighted both the competitive gap within Red Bull and the growing speculation over Verstappen’s long‑term plans in Formula 1.
