Maximilian Bieri sworn in as Lord Mayor of Hanau
Maximilian Bieri, a 36-year-old Social Democrat (SPD), has officially been sworn in as the new Lord Mayor of Hanau, succeeding Claus Kaminsky. Bieri becomes the youngest Lord Mayor in the state of Hesse, taking over from Kaminsky, who is retiring after 23 years in office.
In his inaugural address, Bieri emphasized the themes of building bridges and establishing trust. He described the administration of Hanau, Hesse's sixth-largest city with approximately 107,000 residents, as managing a “small billion-euro company” facing diverse and immense challenges.
Bieri, a mathematician with a doctorate, won the runoff election in March with nearly 60 percent of the vote. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Congress Park Hanau to accommodate the large number of attendees for the generational transition of leadership.
