May festivals draw crowds in Belgium's Aalbeke and Netherlands' Aalten
From 8 to 10 May, the village of Aalbeke in Belgium hosts a free three‑day music festival on the church square, featuring live bands, DJs and a children's entertainment programme. The weekend concludes with a performance by the band Yevgueni and includes activities such as a talent stage for youth, a playground area and a small fair.
On 14 May, the border town of Aalten in the Netherlands holds its annual International Oldtimer Treffen, showcasing more than 300 classic cars from the Netherlands and Germany. Visitors can see the vehicles displayed in the town centre, enjoy live music, a miniature train park, and a Sunday shopping day with open stores and cafés. Both events are community‑driven and free to the public.
