Mayor Abel Sabarots Opposes Councilor Increase in General Acha

Mayor Abel Sabarots of General Acha reiterated his opposition to expanding the municipal council from eight to twelve members. He argued that, despite the 2022 census showing a population over 15,000, the town should retain the same representation as nearby municipalities and warned that the proposed increase would raise political spending by about 50%. Sabarots called on the provincial Chamber of Deputies to amend the relevant law and said that more than 95% of local residents are against the change.

In Valle Viejo, Catamarca, councilor Gerónimo Cabrera of La Libertad Avanza condemned a recent $40,000 salary increase for municipal workers and demanded that mayor Susana Zenteno disclose the municipality’s finances. Cabrera accused the administration of mismanaging public works, labeling the sanitation project a major corruption case, and criticized the recent dismissal of a former education director. He urged transparency before any further fiscal decisions are made.
