President Sheinbaum tackles Quintana Roo tourism, sargazo crisis and T‑MEC trade talks

President Claudia Sheinbaum began a three‑day work tour in Tulum, Quintana Roo, where she met with hoteliers, artisans, fishers and other business owners. During the visit she heard complaints about an alleged property seizure involving the state prosecutor and concerns over changes to the management plan of Parque Nacional del Tulum administered by CONANP. Transport operators from Playa del Carmen announced a protest en route to Tulum to present demands to the president.

Sheinbaum also addressed the sargazo surge, with the environment ministry targeting the collection of 2,500‑6,000 tonnes of seaweed daily offshore to prevent beach contamination and to feed a circular‑economy project that turns the algae into bio‑fertiliser and other products.

At the same time, the president is leading a new round of T‑MEC negotiations with the United States, scheduled to begin on 20 July. A USTR delegation will visit Mexico to discuss stability for North‑American supply chains, especially the automotive sector, which supports about one million Mexican jobs. The goal is a definitive review that locks in commitments without opening new tariff disputes.
