Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada Starts Mérida Enchula Park Revamp

Mérida’s municipal council approved a series of public tenders to begin work on the first 60 parks under the "Mérida Enchula" program, the city’s most ambitious public‑space renewal effort in two decades. The plan aims to upgrade a total of 106 parks out of more than 800 municipal spaces, adding new lighting, safer walkways, and refurbished children’s areas to make them more accessible and secure for families.

The initiatives also include contracts for water‑supply upgrades, electricity network extensions, new LED streetlights, and mosquito‑control fumigation in precincts. Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, who has been rated among the top Mexican mayors, highlighted the project as a concrete step toward improving quality of life in Mérida. In addition to her mayoral duties, Patrón Laviada was recently appointed vice‑president of the Centro Iberoamericano de Desarrollo Estratégico Urbano (CIDEU) for the 2026‑2028 term, underscoring her growing profile in urban policy circles.
