Mayor Germán Beardo's Club World Cup Trip Sparks Transparency Probe in Spain
Spain's left-wing party Izquierda Unida has formally asked the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Andalusian Football Federation (RFAF) to disclose details of the invitation that allowed El Puerto mayor Germán Beardo to attend the FIFA Club World Cup final in the United States on 19 July. The party seeks information on who issued the invitation, the cost of the ticket, whether travel and accommodation were covered, and whether any companions were included.
The local citizen platform El Puerto para Vivir has also called for the mayor to be excluded from any decisions relating to Cádiz CF or companies linked to the club. It points to a €5.4 million sponsorship and collaboration agreement between the provincial government and the football club and argues that Beardo’s involvement creates a conflict of interest. The platform demands publication of the invitation details, travel expenses, and all contracts with the club, and urges that future management of related facilities be handled by an independent body.
