Mayor Leo Bezerra inaugurates 30 new paved streets in João Pessoa
Mayor Leo Bezerra symbolically delivered 30 newly paved streets across ten neighbourhoods of João Pessoa, raising the total of completed roads in the city's paving programme to 1,200. The works, costing R$ 7.96 million, include cobblestones, drainage, standardized sidewalks and tree planting.
The municipality aims to pave 100 % of its streets by the end of 2028. About 800 streets remain unpaved, with 300 contracts already signed for future works. Residents report improved mobility and accessibility, citing the case of Michelle Gomes, whose son Davi, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, benefits from the new pavement.
The mayor reaffirmed the commitment to continue the programme, describing it as the largest road‑paving effort in João Pessoa’s history and a step toward better quality of life for the city’s population.
