Mayor Leo Bezerra Announces R$430 million Payroll Injection for João Pessoa Employees

Mayor Leo Bezerra of João Pessoa announced a payroll schedule that will inject roughly R$430 million into the local economy over the next 30 days. The plan covers salaries for May and June and an advance of the first half of the 13th‑month pay for municipal workers.

Payments begin on Thursday, 28 May, with May salaries for retirees and pensioners of the municipal pension institute. On Friday, 29 May, active employees—including permanent, commissioned and service staff—receive their May wages. On 12 June, the city will advance the first installment of the 13th‑month salary to all staff, followed by June salary disbursements for retirees on 29 June and for active employees on 30 June. The mayor said the schedule respects fiscal balance and aims to “warm various sectors of our economy” during the June festivities and World Cup atmosphere.
