Mayor Leo Bezerra inaugurates 65th rebuilt school in João Pessoa with Google and Maker spaces
Mayor Leo Bezerra delivered the newly rebuilt Escola Duarte da Silveira in the Costa e Silva neighbourhood of João Pessoa on Thursday, marking the 65th school renovated by the municipal administration since 2021. The R$1.7 million project added a modernized physical structure, a Google Classroom, a Maker space equipped with Lego, robotics and artificial‑intelligence projects, a specialized education support room (AEE), a science laboratory, a new library and upgraded electrical, hydraulic and accessibility features.
Bezerra said the new facilities confirm the city is “on the right path with assertive actions and dedicated work for our population.” Education secretary América Castro emphasized the importance of digital tools for post‑pandemic learning, while school director Maurílio Farias highlighted the revitalized learning environment. The renovation is part of the 8th edition of the “Prefeitos e Prefeitos Amigos da Criança” program, which focuses on public‑policy improvements for children and adolescents in João Pessoa.
