Mayor Leo Bezerra launches commerce boost and climate‑adaptation plans in João Pessoa
Mayor Leo Bezerra of João Pessoa reinforced the city's partnership with the Chamber of Shopkeepers (CDL) during the launch of the "Liquida João Pessoa" sales campaign. He announced tax incentives for downtown businesses, infrastructure upgrades such as LED lighting, monitoring cameras, and revitalisation projects through the newly created Secretariat of Preservation, Revitalisation and Innovation of the Historic Centre. The campaign, running from 25 May to 4 July, aims to attract shoppers to the metropolitan area with discounts and prize draws, covering João Pessoa and nearby municipalities.
Bezerra also took part in the first meeting of the National Front of Mayors' Adaptation, Mitigation and Disaster Prevention Committee (CAMP) in Brasília, discussing the expected impacts of the El Niño phenomenon. He called for alignment between municipal and federal actions to prepare for prolonged drought, higher temperatures and related risks. The city’s contingency plan and ongoing river cleaning, as well as food‑security measures through the Social Development Secretariat, were highlighted as part of the municipality’s climate‑resilience strategy.
