Mayor of Ciudad Juárez states removal of gated communities is not a priority

Mayor Héctor Ortiz Orpinel has stated that the removal of security gates in residential subdivisions is not currently a priority for the municipal administration in Ciudad Juárez. While the administration is analyzing the issue, Ortiz Orpinel clarified that there is no immediate plan to either keep or remove the structures.

The review of the gated communities was prompted by requests made to city council members. The mayor noted that many areas were originally closed due to past insecurity, a situation he suggested has changed significantly. He emphasized that the city must carefully weigh the rights of citizens, balancing the need for mobility against the need for security.

According to the mayor, public opinion is divided, with approximately half of the citizens in favor of removing the gates and the other half opposed. He indicated that the municipal government is listening to the population and awaiting formal proposals from council members and relevant departments to conduct a thorough analysis.
