Mayor Rico Waas inaugurates first Car Free Day in Medan Belawan

On Sunday 2 August 2026, Medan Belawan hosted its first Car Free Day (CFD), an event organized jointly by Kodaeral I Belawan and the Medan city government and supported by local stakeholders. The mayor, Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas, attended and emphasized that “happiness and health must reach all corners of Medan.”

The CFD, part of the celebrations for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, Kodaeral’s first anniversary and the 80th anniversary of Jalasenastri, attracted thousands of residents. Activities included group exercise, health services, and a bazaar for small‑and‑medium enterprises. Laksamana Muda TNI Deny Septiana praised the high turnout and described the event as evidence of positive transformation in Belawan.

Officials said the CFD will become a regular fixture, initially scheduled monthly and later increased to a bi‑weekly cadence, aiming to foster healthier lifestyles and boost the local economy.
